Mansfield High School Choir Presents “A Christmas Concert”
On December 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m, The Mansfield High School Choir performed their annual Christmas concert at the First United Methodist Church. They performed classic Christmas songs, collaborated some of their own, and added a little twist to others. There were also much more solos than usual throughout the concert.
The Chamber Choir performed “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “Jingle Bell Rock”, while the Men’s Choir sang “Still, Still, Still” with solos by Hunter Ginn, Andrew Hernandez, Chance McCallister, Brandon Nguyen, Josh McDonald, and Brandon McDowell.
The Concert Choir sang “Let it Snow! let it Snow! let it Snow!”, “Jesu Parvule” with a solo for both of these traditional songs by Jae Martinez.
The young Concert Choir also sang “Jamaican Noel” as back up for Kennedy Manley, Alyssa Orr, Sierra Wood, Amy Vo, Miriam Millan, and Jocelyn Tran.
After that performance, the whole church switched to a more upbeat environment with Julia Phillips and Al Hoff’s performance of “Mele Kalikimaka”, with Phillips’ Ukelalea, Hoff’s singing smile, and both of their kazoos.
Bella Voce showed their talent by singing in a completely different language, Latin. They sang “A La Nanita Nana” and “Christmas in About 3 Minutes” and ended their performance by wishing us all a Merry Christmas.
The classic “Silent Night” was beautifully sung by seniors Taylor Cockrum, Caitlyn Durkee, and Maria Santocono who also made it to Regionals All-State Choir this year which will be in Midland, TX.
When the concert came to an end, the Varsity Wonen’s Choir sang “And Suddenly” and “The Christmas Song” with Shelby Priddy as the soloist.
Chamber choir gathered back up together on stage to perform angelically with hardly the piano playing, and only their talented voices to depend on, “O Magnum Mysterium”, “Lux Aurumque”, and “The First Noel” with Durkee as the soloist again.
Mary-Katherine Mulligan sang “Do You See What I See”, with a confident stance, and a merry smile.
Mansfield’s A Capella Choir sang “Fum, Fum, Fum”, “Carol of The Bells”, and made a collaboration of “Jingle Bells” and “Hallelujah” creating a Chorus of the two.
Concluding the choirs’ concert, they continued their traditional prayer “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”, with all of the choirs together on one stage, and surprisingly Mansfield graduates that were on that very stage last year, showed up to the concert and were able to sing the song they did after every concert they ever did throughout their high school years.
