Choir Hosts Princess Tea Party as Fundraiser
To raise funds for the Varsity Women’s choir, the organization will host a Princess Tea Party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 11 in the library. Tickets are sold online at mansfieldchoir.com and cost $15 for children and $10 for adults, accompanying a child.
“It is a fundraiser for us, so whenever we have competitions or need to plan events, the money will go toward that,” junior Erin Barrett, who plays Moana, said. “It’s just a fun way to get the community together and share our love of Disney.”
Choir director Reginal Wright said he was inspired to start this event after seeing it at another school. Barrett said she agrees and thinks it was a good addition to the choir’s participation efforts.
“We do this tea party to get involved in the community and with the kids,” Barrett said. “It also gives parents a day where parents can relax; I guess it’s like a cheap Disney World.”
Tomorrow, those involved will set up the library with a section for each princess as a station for the kids attending to “meet” and take pictures with them.
“It looks super cute and we all have so much fun decorating,” senior Joley Gow, who plays Elsa, said. “The library is transformed into a Disney wonderland and I love it.”
Not only is this a tea party, but each student participating dresses up as their assigned princess and must stay in character for the entirety of the afternoon to keep the magic alive.
“We sing for them, we learn the autographs, dress up in our costumes and basically just have fun with them playing games and enjoying snacks,” Gow said. “We go all out; we go hard and it’s lots of fun.”
Barrett said the day is not about just a fundraiser; it is about coming together as a choir and bringing smiles to the kids’ faces whenever they see the princesses.
“My favorite part is seeing all the choir students dressed up on a day where we don’t have to worry about school,” she said. “What we’re here for is to make the kids smile, and so all in all, that makes us smile. It’s the best event to plan and participate in.”
