Homecoming proposals are timeless, albeit a little cliche most of the time. For most people, the same visual comes to mind: someone awkwardly walking up to their date’s house holding up a sign that, more often than not, was made by their mom. In this year’s round of proposals, some Improv students decided to put a spin on this traditional approach.
Mansfield’s Improv troupe “703” hosts its comedy routines throughout the school year on set dates at 7:03 p.m. Improv–short for improvisation–heavily on audience participation, as the members improvise their suggestions with a comedic twist.
At Improv’s Halloween routine on Oct. 15, three members of the team decided to make their Homecoming proposals. After stepping offstage, Senior Jayden McDonald returned with his Percy Jackson-inspired poster and proposed on stage.
This was shortly followed by junior Evan Collins’ proposal playing off Travis Scott’s song “FE!N.” Improv captain and senior Tony Trieu continued this musical trend with a proposal based on Sabrina Carpenter’s recent release “Please Please Please.”
Improv’s round of three Homecoming proposals in one night shook up the concept of what a Homecoming proposal should be. Instead of opting for a more private approach, their on-the-spot strategy contributed to a unique and comedic evening.
